Grey County opposes the sell-off of long-term care home

Grey County Council chambers were packed last Thursday as community members and staff gathered to oppose the proposed closure and sell-off of Grey Gables long-term care home in Markdale, Ontario.

The proposal recommends amalgamating Grey Gables in Markdale and Rockwood Terrace in Durham into a new facility in Durham. The current residence at Grey Gables would be put up for sale as a private assisted living facility.

People in the community with family members at Grey Gables are expressing concerns that they would have to travel farther to Durham to visit their loved ones.

Grey County Council has deferred a decision about the long-term care facility until May 11. Meetings for public input are planned in Durham on March 30 and Markdale on March 31.
